Description

Builds on your wreck-diving skills to include limited penetration, defined as staying within the natural light zone of the entry point so an exit is always in sight. This version requires additional training dives and adds the specialized techniques needed to venture just inside a wreck while carefully managing the added risks. You’ll learn proper use of guidelines and reels, buddy procedures, light handling, and silt-avoidance finning to keep visibility clear, along with the planning and gas-management discipline that safe penetration demands. It’s an exciting step deeper into wreck exploration, opening up new perspectives while keeping safety and self-sufficiency front and center.

Wreck diving can be one of the most exciting aspects of sport diving, however every effort must be made to maximize safe diving techniques. The SDI Wreck Diver Course will discuss the equipment and techniques commonly employed while wreck diving. This course may be taught as a non-penetration, 2 dives required, or as a limited-penetration course, requiring 3 dives. Limited-penetration is defined as a swim through or within the ambient light of entry point.

Dives included: 3 open water dives (2 wreck dives plus 1 additional dive for the limited-penetration certification).

Prerequisites

• SDI Wreck Diver – No Penetration (or equivalent) recommended
• SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent, plus experience
• Minimum age 15 years
• Complete a medical statement where relevant

What You Will Learn

Required Equipment

• Complete open-water scuba kit
• Primary and backup dive lights

Course Requirements & Standards (SDI)

• Penetration limited to the natural light zone with exit always in sight
• Minimum of 3 open-water training dives (2 conducted during penetration) with an SDI Instructor
• Conducted with an SDI Instructor within recreational limits
